    Background <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

    The Nyanza Western Kenya Caucus of Internally Displaced Persons (NWKC) was born out of the painful realities of displacement in Kenya, particularly following episodes of political violence, land conflict, and climate-related disasters that uprooted families in Nyanza and Western regions. In the aftermath of the 2007\/2008 post-election violence, thousands of households in the region lost homes, livelihoods, and social networks. Displaced families often found themselves marginalized in their own country, excluded from government development plans, facing uncertain land tenure, and grappling with poverty, trauma, and social stigma.<\/p>\n\n

    In response, a group of community leaders, faith-based organizations, and affected families came together informally to amplify the voices of IDPs and seek durable solutions. This grassroots initiative gradually developed into a structured platform, giving birth to NWKC. Over time, the Caucus evolved into a legally registered humanitarian and development NGO to provide both immediate humanitarian support and long-term resilience building for displaced and vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n\n

    NWKC\u2019s mandate is drawn from its constitution, Kenya\u2019s legal frameworks (including the Prevention, Protection and Assistance to Internally Displaced Persons Act, 2012<\/em>), and international humanitarian and human rights instruments such as the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement and the African Union Kampala Convention on IDPs.<\/p>\n\n

    At its core, NWKC exists to ensure that internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other marginalized groups are not left behind in national and regional development processes. Its mission is not only to respond to displacement crises but also to transform them into opportunities for empowerment, resilience, and inclusive growth.<\/p>\n\n
